My Story
I earned both my Bachelorās degree in English and Master of Teaching (MT) from the University of Virginia before beginning a nine-year career as a high school English teacher, where I taught 9th, 11th, and 12th graders. As a founding faculty member at a brand-new high school, I had the opportunity to launch the AP Literature program. Iām still a poetry nerd, and my favorites include W.B. Yeats and Sharon Olds.
In 2020, I became a stay-at-home parent, welcoming two children during the pandemic. When I returned to work, I spent two years supporting high-achieving high school students through college admissions counseling and essay coaching.
Today, I work as a Content & Communications Specialist for a behavioral health group. I create and design content for social media, manage website updates, write weekly newsletters for clients and referral partners, and support community outreach efforts. I love finding ways to bring honesty and storytelling into mental health content. I also really enjoy taking complex ideas, like the connection between the gut microbiome and community, and making them more accessible and engaging.
This fall, Iāll begin an MBA program with a concentration in Healthcare Administration. Throughout my professional experiences, the importance of mental health has been a constant. Iāve spent countless hours advising adolescents and supporting their well-being, and I hope to expand that impact. Iām especially interested in improving healthcare access and making the process of finding mental health care a little less overwhelming.
Personally, I love to read. Recent favorites include The River is Waiting by Wally Lamb, Culpability by Bruce Holsinger, and I Who Have Never Known Men by Jaqueline Harpman.
I also enjoy cold brew coffee, running around with my kids, and beating my husband in Patchwork, a two-player board game he hates but I love.
